27th November 2007 - Akebono Brake to Commence Disc Pad Production in Thailand

Akebono Brake Industry, Co. Ltd. announced on 14 November 2007 a decision to newly commence disc pad production at its Thai subsidiary, Akebono Brake (Thailand) Co., Ltd.  Accordingly, a new disc pad manufacturing facility is to be added to the existing disc brake plant in Thailand.

Akebono has already acquired 27,000 square meters of land next to the current facility in Amata Nakom, Thailand's largest industrial estate, and has begun construction with a target completion date of May 2008.  An initial monthly production capacity of 250,000 units is forecast, and this is to be increased to 400,000 units per month by 2010.  A total investment of approximately 1.2 billion yen is planned.

Akebono Brake (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is currently is the final stages of preparation for disc brake supply.  By complementing this with additional disc pad production, customer needs can be even better met through optimal delivery and overall superior product quality.

With a focus on Japanese automakers operating in Thailand, Akebono Brake (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was established in August 2006.  The company has a significant role to play in the integration of regional business activities and will be a key factor in the Akebono Group's future expansion in Asia.  With the addition of disc pad production to its functions, Akebono Brake (Thailand) Co., Ltd. will help drive business development in Asia, where further growth is anticipated.
