October 2008 - Mopar 'Puts the
Brakes' on Brake Dust: New Product Helps Keep Wheels Like New
Mopar(R),
Chrysler LLC's original equipment parts manufacturer and supplier, has
introduced a new product designed to protect wheel surfaces from
unsightly brake dust and its damaging effects. Labeled Brake Dust
Inhibitor, the product leaves an invisible barrier that repels up to 60%
of brake dust, and reduces the need for harsh chemical cleaners often
used to remove contaminants.
But why be
concerned about brake dust? In addition to being unsightly, brake dust
can be destructive. Composed of tiny bits of metal filings and brake pad
adhesive, the dust mixture becomes acidic through oxidation, a process
stimulated by road salt in northern climates and air salt in coastal
regions. This can lead to serious etching on the wheel surface. And many
wheel cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can further corrode wheel
surfaces. The result can be pitted and damaged surfaces that allow brake
dust, dirt and oil to quickly adhere to the wheel, causing damaging
effects that can range from tiny black pits to severe discoloration and
worse.
Using a
unique, non-toxic mixture, Mopar's Brake Dust Inhibitor offers superior
protection against these harmful brake particles, as well as dust, dirt,
oil, winter chemicals such as magnesium chloride (often used for snow
melting) and road salt, all elements that cause degeneration over time.
Unlike some aftermarket products, Brake Dust Inhibitor is easily applied
in a spray mist that provides a generous coating that remains on the
wheels for up to a year, even through multiple car washes. For maximum
protection, reapplication is suggested every three to six months. Mopar
Brake Dust Inhibitor also eliminates the need for scrubbing, polishing
and the use of harsh cleaners. Dirty wheels treated with Brake Dust
Inhibitor can be cleaned quickly and easily with soap and water, or a
damp cloth.
