26th
June 2009 - Bendix Recognized
as One of the Top 10 Employers in Ohio
Commercial Vehicle
Technology Leader Honored by Ohio Chamber of Commerce and Ohio Society
of Human Resource Management for Third Time
Bendix Commercial Vehicle
Systems LLC, the North American leader in active safety and brake system
technologies, has been recognized as one of the 2009 Best Employers in
Ohio by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio Society of Human
Resource Management (SHRM).
The Elyria-based company
ranked as the 10th Best Employer in the large companies category, which
includes companies with 250 or more employees in the state of Ohio.
Bendix is the only manufacturing company in the state to appear on the
list and the only company based in Lorain County to be recognized.
Bendix earned a spot in the
top 10 for its wide-ranging employee programs, including wide-ranging
community involvement activities, a focus on healthy lifestyles, and
workforce participation in the company’s health and wellness programs.
As part of its employee health and wellness initiative, Bendix offers
mammography, Weight Watchers® at Work, on-site fitness centers, cardio
classes, free blood work, a new indoor walking track, annual health
fairs, monthly breakfast-and-learn health seminars, and year-round
tobacco cessation classes.
"Like so many other
companies, we’ve been challenged by the current business climate, making
it that much more essential to remain focused on our employees and the
communities in which we do business. This continued focus has enabled us
to maintain a positive work environment and corporate culture," said
Diane Shields, vice president of human resources and organizational
development for Bendix. "Our outstanding employees and commitment to
teamwork continue to make Bendix one of the best places to work. We’re
honored that our commitment to the satisfaction, health, and wellness of
our workforce, as well as our philosophy of giving back to the
community, is being recognized in this way."
Best Employer winners are
chosen based on a two-part process. First, companies are evaluated for
their workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and
demographics. The second part of the process, which is worth 75 percent
of the overall score, comes from the results of a random, confidential
employee satisfaction survey used to evaluate the workplace experience.
