Founded in 1974, Sundaram Brake Linings Ltd (SBL) is the largest manufacturer of friction material for commercial vehicles in India and a member of the century-old TVS Group of Companies.  The TVS Group is India’s #1 source for automotive components with 40,000 employees worldwide and annual sales exceeding US$ 3.7 billion.

Heavy-duty commercial vehicle brake block and disc brake pads make up the predominant portion of the SBL product range.  SBL also manufactures a variety of organic friction materials for passenger cars, motorcycles, agricultural equipment, railroad locomotives and rolling stock, household appliances and industrial applications.

The company operates 4 manufacturing facilities in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu that are strategically located near the major ports of Chennai and Tuticorin.  The company was the first to manufacture and introduce asbestos-free friction material into the Indian market.
