Called two-step resins.  Prepared by an acid catalyzed reaction with less than one molecule of formaldehyde per molecule of phenol.  Requires a curing agent to complete the cure.  Normally this is added during the grinding operation so that the powdered resin purchased from the resin manufacturer is ready to use.  Curing agent is usually hexamethylenetetramine (hexa).
